The Solar Eclipse Threshold

Releasing the Old, Entering the Liminal Space, and Planting the Seeds of What Comes Next

By Dr. Elena Estanol

August 12, 2026

Today, August 12, there is a solar eclipse in Leo; a threshold that, within the astrological framework I study, carries a powerful Leo–Aquarius invitation. Leo is my Sun sign; Aquarius is my Moon sign. And this eclipse may bring a torrent of energy that you have already begun to feel or experience.

But I’m going to back up for a moment, because this is probably the first blog you have read from me that speaks directly about astrology. So let me tell you why I am writing this, and why you may hear more about it from me.

Why Astrology—and Why Now?

Many, many moons; and many years ago, I thought astrology was “woo-woo.” I never paid attention to lunar cycles, full moons or new moons.

Then I started noticing something peculiar in my clients. Around certain times, it felt like everyone was struggling. And incidentally, that everyone was struggling in similar ways.

For years, I dismissed it.

Then I heard other practitioners in consultation groups say things like, “Oh, it’s the full moon,” or “Mercury is retrograde,” and I thought: What??? Are you telling me that lunar cycles or planetary movements are having an impact on my clients’ lives? On my life?

I refused to accept it. But my refusal did not stop it from happening. It kept happening, and the patterns became more and more specific.

So I began quietly (almost secretly) "closet" studying ancient and modern systems for understanding patterns and people. I studied astrology, numerology, Tarot, Human Design, and Huna, an ancient Hawaiian system of healing and empowerment, alongside the many psychological temperament systems I had already explored: MBTI, Enneagram, DISC, CVI, and others.

What I discovered is that astrology and numerology are among humanity’s most ancient systems of observation and meaning-making. The Maya, Aztecs, Egyptians, Greeks, and many other civilizations studied celestial patterns with extraordinary care. Many of their temples and monuments were constructed with remarkable precision in relationship to the movement and angles of the Sun, Moon, and stars.

They studied the sky not only to understand their experience, but also to anticipate and prepare for what was coming. They understood something our modern world often seems to have forgotten:

We exist in relationship: to one another, to every living being, to Mother Earth, and to the larger solar and cosmic environment in which we live.

I chose to study a form of True Sidereal Astrology that considers the actual astronomical placement and differing sizes of the constellations, at the time/date of brith, rather than assuming twelve perfectly equal divisions of the sky. This means some of what I share may sound different from what you have heard through traditional Western Tropical Astrology—or even through other sidereal systems.

For a long time, I used this information only for myself and in the background of my work. But I have come to realize that it is rich, meaningful, and valuable; and worth sharing with you.

Especially now.

As our world and civilization continue along an intense evolutionary pathway, many things may feel rocky, destabilizing, or uncertain. Sometimes having another lens does not eliminate the discomfort, but it can help us meet it with more curiosity, compassion, and choice.

What You May Be Experiencing

Over time, I have noticed clusters of experiences arising in many of my clients and in people around me during periods of heightened personal and collective transition. You may recognize some of them now.

SYMPTOMS

Body and Energy

  • Unusual tiredness that does not seem to resolve with sleep
  • Surges of energy followed by sudden crashes at unexpected times; such as an intense need to nap when you have never been a napper
  • Heightened sensitivity to food, alcohol, or substances you previously tolerated more easily
  • Ringing in your ears, heightened sensitivity to noise, tingling, or unusual body sensations
  • Heart palpitations, changes in breathing, or body pains that seem to come and go or move through the body
  • A sense of instability or feeling ungrounded; even when you appear to have all your ducks in a row

Sleep, Dreams, and Time

  • Disrupted sleep—waking between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m. and struggling to fall back asleep, or having difficulty falling asleep altogether
  • Intense, strange, or meaningful dreams that can be difficult to recall upon waking
  • A sense that time is compressing, expanding, or somehow doing both
  • Losing track of time, belongings, projects, or plans you previously made

Emotions, Sensitivity, and Intuition

  • Feeling more emotional than usual
  • Feeling restless, agitated or "pressured"
  • Heightened sensitivity to environments, energy, vibration, your own emotions, or the emotions of others
  • A feeling that something is off, even though you cannot put your finger on it
  • A feeling of intense compression. As though pressure is building in your life, but you cannot identify its source; as though something amazing or something terrible is about to happen, and you do not yet know which
  • A heightened awareness of your intuitive senses
  • Recurring thoughts about something you sense you need to do—or stop doing. Intuitively, you may already know what it is: a habit, a pattern of relating, a way of being, a job, a relationship, or something else

Relationships, Identity, and Emerging Direction

  • Feeling pulled toward things, people, places, or situations that never called to you before—and not knowing why
  • A sense of disconnection or numbness toward your old life. Things that once interested or motivated you no longer carry the same energy
  • People or relationships that once felt comfortable losing their pull—or suddenly feeling irritating, confusing, or draining
  • A sense of detachment from your home, surroundings, work, or routines
  • A pull toward something completely different: a new profession, relationship, home, community, or place of residence
  • A desire for more time in nature, quiet, meditation, or reflection—whether you are moving toward that desire or resisting it

Avoidance and Resistance

If you are resisting what wants your attention, you may notice an increase in avoidance-type behaviors: scrolling, shopping, drinking, using mind-altering substances, binge-watching shows, playing video games, overworking, over-exercising, procrastinating, or sleeping more than usual.

There may be others. These are simply the patterns I am seeing most often.

I am naming them so that, if you recognize yourself here, you can meet your experience with compassion rather than immediately deciding that something is wrong with you. Especially if you have been engaging in behaviors you are not proud of. Awareness can help you understand what may be asking for your attention and make this transition gentler for yourself

Important note: I am not suggesting that an eclipse is a medical explanation for physical or psychological symptoms, nor that spiritual or energetic interpretation should replace appropriate care. Some experiences deserve medical or psychological attention. Please seek support for symptoms that are new, persistent, severe, worsening, or concerning—especially heart palpitations accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting. My invitation is simply not to assume every unfamiliar experience is evidence that something is wrong with you. We can attend responsibly to the body and mind while remaining curious about the emotional, relational, spiritual, and energetic context in which an experience is arising.

If none of this speaks to you, feel free to shelf it. There is no need to keep reading.

Now, If none of this speaks to you, feel free to shelf it. There is no need to keep reading.

But if you are even a little curious, I invite you to continue; to observe your own experience, contrast it with some of what I am naming, and explore how interpreting your experience through a different lens may change the way you relate to it.

The Solar Eclipse

Astronomically, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking part or all of the Sun from view and casting its shadow upon Earth. The August 12, 2026 eclipse is a total solar eclipse, although totality will be visible only along a specific path. Here in the United States, most of us will not get to witness it;  but within an astrological framework, visibility is not required for the moment to carry symbolic meaning.

And you may already be feeling its energetic influence.

The Big-Picture Pattern: Leo in Service of Aquarius

Within the astrological framework I study, I understand this as a Leo–Aquarius threshold. Although the eclipse is moving through Leo, I see it as part of a larger civilizational transition toward Aquarian themes: authentic expression, collective evolution, innovation, interconnection, and freedom from rigid hierarchies. An invitation to let go of the traditional, hierarchical and masculine structures, into more collaborative and collective processes in service of the collective.

It is here to dissolve ego-based and performative ways of being:

The guru seeking the limelight for control, domination, or attention; the old masculine patterns of competing, pushing, hustling, and proving; the masks we have created to earn external validation or acceptance; and the ways we have kept our authentic selves hidden to preserve peace, maintain the status quo, or avoid rejection.

It is orienting us toward authentic expression and collective expansion.

It may illuminate the quiet work you have been developing, practicing, or studying in the dark; and ask you to bring it into the light.

Just as I am doing with this post. (Sharing something I've been "closet" studying for many years without sharing publicly.)

So while a solar eclipse is literally an occultation; a temporary obscuring of the Sun; this eclipse may illuminate what has been hidden in a somewhat uncomfortable manner.

If you have been running away from owning or processing a deep feeling, the running may stop here.

There Are Two Invitations at This Threshold

1. Release What Is No Longer Serving You

  • Release the masks that are keeping you trapped.
  • Release the need for external validation, performance, attention, and control.
  • Release the old beliefs that have kept you stuck or looping.
  • Release old wounds that are keeping you anchored in a victim identity.
  • Release the patterns that keep repeating long after their lesson has been learned.

2. Claim Your Bold, Authentic, and Unapologetic Self

Claim the person your spirit is actually asking you to become; and the life, work, truth, or creation it is asking you to choose to align with that authentic self.

A Little Tarot

Acorn

I keep thinking about this threshold as an "Acorn"-- and this representing the energy of The World Card in tarot.

The World represents "completion". The Closing of a cycle, the integration of its lessons, and the moment when everything you have experienced becomes part of who you are.

But completion is NOT the end.

When a mighty oak completes its cycle; it produces an acorn.

The acorn falls away from the tree and enters the darkness of the earth. From the outside it may appear cute, but insignificant.

But within it lives the complete blueprint of an entirely new world: A Mighty Oak.

The acorn didn't need to remain attached to the tree in order honor where it came from. It carries the tree's blueprint and wisdom inside of it.

And so do you.

You do not need to cling to a completed cycle, lesson or experience in order to honor the wisdom it gave you.

You can release it with gratitude, carry its wisdom forward, and trust that the new life is already forming inside of you; even if you can not see it yet.

This is the threshold we are crossing now.

The World has completed its cycle.

The acorn has fallen.

The darkness is here. But it is not empty; it is fertile.

The Darkness of the New Moon

Dark New Moon

The second powerful thing happening is a New Moon in Leo.

New moons are liminal spaces—the place that exists after you have released something, but before the new thing has fully arrived.

It is the caterpillar turning into mush inside the chrysalis. It is the dissolution of what was, before the new form has emerged.

It can feel heavy, dark, and frightening because you do not yet know what is coming.

And yet, this is the place where you get to plant the seed.

  • In the darkness.
  • Where you get to claim who you are; and who you are becoming; from an authentic place, without performance pressure.
  • Where you learn to trust the darkness even though you cannot see.
  • Where the first steps toward building profound self-trust begin.

Give yourself space, kindness, and compassion. Today you may feel things you had not allowed yourself to feel; or see things you had not allowed yourself to see.

The blinders may come off.

If you have spent time doing deep work or shadow work—if you have taken the time to own difficult truths about yourself, your life, career, relationships, or environment—this moment may be less of a revelation and more of a confirmation. It may offer an opportunity to see what you already know with greater clarity

You Cannot Welcome the New Without Making Space

Here’s the thing: You cannot get a new couch into your house while the old couch is still taking up all the space where the new couch needs to go.

It is an old principle of physics: Two objects cannot occupy the exact same location in space at the same time.

We understand this easily when we are talking about couches, pants, and coats. But somehow it eludes us when it comes to emotional baggage, beliefs, habits, jobs, relationships, environments, and identities.

We are constantly evolving. And sadly, we do not always evolve at the same pace or in the same direction as the people, places, and structures around us.

Yet we often refuse to complete the cycle.

In a way, it is like continuing to re-enroll in the same class over and over—even after you have learned the lesson

This Process Is About Reclaiming Your Freedom

Freedom from needing your past; or anyone outside of you; to acknowledge, agree with, or praise the person you have become.

Freedom to be your authentic and unapologetic self without looking outward for confirmation or validation.

Permission to speak your truth without shrinking yourself to make others comfortable—and to do so with kindness.

The reclamation of energy and space you have allowed others to occupy without your permission or consent

This eclipse may bring forward the thing you need to complete.

IMPORTANT: This is about becoming aware of and honest about what needs to be completed because you learned the lesson and fulfilled the purpose. You do not need to take immediate, radical action—especially if this involves a job, relationship, home, or other consequential decision. Allow the truth to emerge. Make room for a peaceful, harmonious completion of the cycle—not a knee-jerk shattering.

The Liminal Space

Questions for Reflection

You do not need to answer them all. Allow these questions to guide you. Journal about the ones that speak to you and leave the rest.

  1. What am I trying to hold onto that no longer serves me? What do I still need to release?
  2. Who am I becoming as a result?
  3. What decision do I need to make for me—and no one else?
  4. Who do I believe I need to be in order to feel loved or successful?
  5. Where am I shrinking myself to fit into spaces or relationships that are no longer aligned with me?
  6. How much of my identity is tied to my job title, salary, house, car, or possessions? Who am I without these things? Are they expanding me—or keeping me in a golden cage?
  7. Where am I lying to myself in order to remain comfortable in a situation that no longer aligns with me?
  8. How do I need to let go of my old self in order to give rise to my new self?
  9. What job, relationship, environment, role, or situation has run its course? Where have I learned what I came to learn—and now need to complete the cycle to open the door for new growth?
  10. What is my soul craving, reaching for, or desiring that I have been ignoring?
  11. What have I been holding myself back from saying, doing, creating, or experiencing?
  12. Am I compromising my individuality, authenticity, or creativity in order to keep the peace?
  13. Where have I been performing instead of being authentic?
  14. Where have I been seeking approval and validation instead of alignment and coherence?

A Release and New-Moon Ritual

You can use this process today or over the next several days. Let it be intentional rather than rushed.

Step 1: Acknowledge what you must release. Give yourself the time and space to name it. Most likely, it is the first thing that came to mind.

Step 2: Write about it. Use loose paper or a journal. Handwriting can make the process more embodied, but typing is also welcome.

Step 3: Feel the emotions. Do not suppress what comes up. Allow the emotion to move through you rather than forcing your body and nervous system to keep carrying the unfinished cycle.

Step 4: Return to your center. Take several slow, deep breaths. Feel your feet, your body, and the space around you.

Step 5: Honor what the experience gave you. Ask what you learned, what you can be grateful for, and what would allow a peaceful completion of the cycle. Then choose to release it and clear the space.

Step 6: Ask again. Is there anything else I am holding onto that no longer aligns with who I am or who I am becoming? Listen to what arises. Repeat the process if needed.

Step 7: Create a physical ritual. Ground the release in a safe, tangible act that represents completion and opened space

Release

As You Allow the Emotion to Move

  • Let the feeling arise. It is okay to experience grief. Letting go is not always easy. You can feel sadness and still recognize that a cycle is complete.
  • Acknowledge that the struggle was real.
  • Acknowledge that the lessons learned are real.
  • Allow the pain and the gratitude to both be real.
  • Ask for forgiveness and offer forgiveness, where it's appropriate and safe. (Or if you are familiar with our Ho'oponopono process, practice that.)

Ideas for a Safe Physical Ritual

  • Clear a drawer, shelf, desk, room, or corner of your home.
  • Delete or archive a file that represents a completed chapter.
  • Change your physical space in a way that highlights what has opened.
  • Write down what you are releasing: thoughts, beliefs, feelings, reactions, habits, roles, people, places, or patterns.
  • Name them out loud, then safely burn the paper in a fire-safe container; tear it into small pieces and throw away; or compost biodegradable paper.

WHEN NOTHING IS CERTAIN, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Plant the Seed—and Let It Grow

Today, you can use the symbolic and energetic support of the Sun and Moon to clear the space and plant the seeds of your new life.

Over the next few days, stay focused on the positive intention of your new creation.

You cannot keep digging up the seeds to see whether they are germinating. You need to tend the soil, provide what nourishes them, and trust that something is happening beneath the surface.

Then begin taking aligned actions toward that new reality; toward that new expression of you.

You do not need a complete business plan with steps A through Z.

You might begin with a simple intention:

"I am showing up more authentically and courageously."

Then practice that in every interaction.

Notice the moments when you want to shrink, silence yourself, or say what will keep everyone comfortable.

Take a breath and tell the truth in a kind manner.

Or perhaps you notice an impulse to compete, perform, prove yourself, present yourself in the best light, or impress others.

Pause and ask yourself: W.A.I.T.—Why Am I Talking?

Then turn your attention toward being present.

Listen with intention.

Ask something you are genuinely curious about.

Share with depth, not pressure.

EMERGING

How to Engage with This Threshold

  • Keep a journal.
  • Rest more than usual, if your body is asking for it.
  • Allow emotions to move through you in a healthy way.
  • Be kind and gentle with yourself and others.
  • Do not make rash decisions about anything important. Notice. Observe. Journal. Allow clarity to mature.
  • Drink more water.
  • Listen to your body—and seek appropriate support when something feels concerning.
  • Create quiet, intentional time to connect with your intuition and your higher self, even if the complete message has not yet arrived.
  • Hold plans loosely.
  • Take small steps that bring you closer to your real self—from honoring simple preferences in food and hobbies to allowing your honest emotions, truth, creativity, and desires to come through.

A Note on Sources and Framework

Astronomical details about the August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse and the mechanics of solar eclipses were checked against NASA eclipse resources. The spiritual and astrological interpretations in this essay reflect the framework I study: True Sidereal Astrology by Athen Chimenti, my professional observations, and my personal perspective; they are offered as invitations for reflection rather than scientific or medical claims.
