The Lunar Eclipse In Pisces

THE LUNAR ECLIPSE IN PISCES
By Dr. Elena Estanol
On August 28th, we will have a partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, and we will also have a Sturgeon Full Moon in Pisces. (Even if you are reading this post the day or two after the eclipse its energies will still be active.
This is a “sister-post” to “The Solar Eclipse” one I wrote for August 12th. Please take what resonates and leave the rest behind.
As I continue writing about these movements, I will introduce different aspects of astrology little by little, so you can understand, from a more empowered way, not just WHAT a transit is, but WHY it may affect you, and why it may affect you differently from someone else. My intention is not for you to blindly believe astrology, but rather to give you enough understanding of this very complex framework so you can use it to observe your own experiences, and draw your own conclusions.
Eclipse Season has often been seen as a season of Transformation by many traditions. And the reason it’s helpful to track, or at the very least pay attention to, Moon Cycles, Planetary movements and Eclipses, is that we don’t live in isolation.
We live in relationship to all living beings. We live in relationship to our planet—Mother Earth—who literally “holds and nourishes” us, and that planet is part of the Solar System that belongs to the Milky Way Galaxy, also called “The Orion Arm.”
And I am sure you already knew that, but I am putting it in context because, in a way, we are all a little like “Russian Dolls.” One embedded in another, and embedded in another and so on.
So the idea that we would be completely immune to the movement of planets, constellations, the sun and the moon seems a little ridiculous. However, many of us were taught to disregard Astrology as simply a “woo-woo pseudo-science that makes up stuff about our destiny.”
It doesn’t work that way.

Astrology is one of the oldest and most complicated sciences that exist, and was the guiding blueprint for many ancient civilizations, and the grounding by which many of these civilizations achieved the scientific, spiritual and architectural wisdom that led to their development.
As I mentioned in my previous post, one of the reasons I decided to study Astrology was due to the observations I had of many of my clients during distinct lunar phases, specifically Full Moons.
I experienced a greater number of clients I needed to hospitalize during Full Moons, and also a greater chance of people with bipolar disorder cycling rapidly or experiencing an extreme shift.
Doing research on this has been difficult, but some brave researchers have looked into this and corroborated some of the similar observations I’ve had in my own practice: people with bipolar cycling faster between depression and mania, instances of depression or anxiety increasing, and overall moodiness and irritability increasing. Some have attributed these effects to the disruption in the circadian rhythm and the impact on the sleep-wake cycle by the light of the moon.
Interestingly…the words “Lunacy” and “Lunatic” date back to the 15th Century when it was believed that the moon and its phases could make people act more or less impulsive or aggressive.

This is also a bit sad, because it’s perhaps one of the reasons people associate Astrology with “woo-woo,” made up or “craziness.”
However, there’s been a lot more research on the impact of lunar cycles on ocean tides due to the moon’s strong gravitational pull on the Earth and the reproductive cycle of some marine animals.
One of the things I noticed is that while many clients would get “dysregulated” or experience “stronger emotional outbursts” during Full Moons, it didn’t affect everyone; and it didn’t occur in “every” Full Moon.
THIS WAS THE CURIOSITY QUESTION that led me to study astrology in more depth.
THE CONSTELLATIONS
And I found out that the reason for this “inconsistency” had nothing to do with the moon per se, and more so to do with the particular constellation (or sign) it was transiting.
Ok, so a little bit on “Constellations” and “Zodiac Signs.”
Many eons ago (maybe over 2,000 or more years ago), the Signs were created based on the Constellations in the sky. There are actually 13 Constellations, including a very small one called “Ophiuchus.” This system was originally mapped out by the Babylonians.
However, because Earth has a “slow axis wobble” called the precession of the equinoxes, this causes the night sky to shift eastward over centuries, and over time the dates “mapped out” for astrological signs no longer match where the real stars are.
If you remember, in my last post I indicated that I use “Sidereal Astrology” instead of “Tropical or Western Astrology.” The latter simply took that original system and mapped out 12 signs onto an equal 30-degree slice of sky and projected it out.
The problem is that not all of these constellations are equal in size, and planets do not all travel at the same speed. (You can see how this would create some inaccuracy, right?)
So Sidereal Astrology is a method that looks at where the constellations and the planets ACTUALLY WERE at the moment you were born to determine your entire astrological chart. And for many people, the placement of their Sun, Moon and Rising (Ascendant) sign may end up in a totally different sign!
You see, as the moon, the sun or the planets move through our Solar System, they “transit” different constellations (as the Earth is also orbiting). These constellations (that serve as the basis for each sign) each have different characteristics that get activated as the Moon or each planet travels through them.
Interestingly, the symbols that we associate with each zodiac sign are not made up. These symbols were extracted from the patterns that the stars in that constellation make up. I found this pretty cool, and it was not something I knew before I started this journey.
PISCES AS AN EXAMPLE

I am going to talk about Pisces in this post since it is the constellation in which both the Lunar Eclipse and the Full Moon are happening. (Just like in my last post I talked about Leo and Aquarius being in the N-S axis, each sign has an “opposite” sign that tends to provide some balance.)
Pisces is in direct opposition to “Virgo,” and consequently they play/complement well with one another. Pisces constellation is a faint constellation shaped like two fish swimming in opposite directions and connected by a cord.
Pisces is the 12th and final sign of the zodiac. It is a mutable, water sign and it’s ruled by Neptune. (Each constellation is ruled by one planet. Though some planets rule two signs, like Mercury ruling Virgo and Gemini.)
Traditionally, Pisces represents the “culmination of all zodiac lessons,” making it a deeply complex, fluid, philosophical sign, focused mostly on the unseen world.
As such, it is also considered to be a “dreamy, illusion-filled, and hazy” sign. Meaning that transits through this constellation can be especially EMOTIONAL—because it’s a water sign—and also confusing, murky or filled with illusion.
Other characteristics associated with Pisces are: highly intuitive, emotional, limitless (boundaries are challenging), highly imaginative, creative, dreamy (which can also lead to escapism), highly empathic, compassionate and sensitive (which can also lead to over-giving, compassion fatigue, sacrificing self for others, and difficulty separating self from others).
Why am I taking the time to explain all of these attributes?
Because when there’s a FULL MOON or a Lunar Eclipse in a particular Sign, we experience an amplification of that sign’s characteristics. It may come as no surprise that usually the sign in which the transit is happening is the most affected, as well as the opposing sign on the axis.
And if you have your full astrological chart cast for you, then wherever that SIGN appears in your chart or House—the area of life—is what will be most affected. It doesn’t mean you won’t be impacted; but that you will be most impacted if you are a Pisces or Virgo.
THE LUNAR ECLIPSE & STURGEON MOON IN PISCES
Eclipses represent a time for deep inner transformation.

A lunar eclipse in particular is especially important for EMOTIONAL RELEASES, and an opportunity to be able to bring what’s in the Unconscious Mind to the Conscious Mind.
A great way to be able to SEE the actual PATTERNS we run, under the surface of our life, without judgment, that keep us running the same story over and over; and to make an actual choice to RELEASE THEM and CHOOSE something different.
Because a Full Moon in Pisces would already bring in many challenges as these characteristics are highlighted, you are more likely to feel sad, moody, experience grief, have issues with boundaries, feel more creative, dreamy, spiritually connected, experience intense dreams, feel more “connected” to “oneness” and experience a dissolution of boundaries, engage in escapist-type activities (like alcohol and other mind-altering substances), and also make impulsive decisions that are not very grounded in reality.
So this is a window; a threshold that is particularly helpful to practice SHADOW WORK, EMOTIONAL RELEASE, intentional release rituals, and healing work.
WHY STURGEON?
I was always curious about this…
Apparently it comes from Native American Tribes and it was marked by the time of the year when the giant lake sturgeon were most readily and easily caught. And because sturgeons are ancient, prehistoric fish, the moon symbolizes ancient wisdom, resilience and endurance. It has also been called "The Shaman's Moon" precisely for its power of transformation.
THE LONG-STANDING ASSOCIATIONS WITH THE MOON & SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS

The Moon has been revered by many Ancient Traditions and been associated with many concepts, traditions, rituals and symbolism.
Some of these associations are: Feminine Energy (nurturing, receptive), intuition, emotion, dreams, cycles of death and rebirth, transformation and reflection.
It is believed that the moon doesn’t emit its own light but rather “reflects” light—which spiritually encourages us to reflect our inner wisdom onto the external reality and reminds us that our “experience” of the world is just a reflection of our inner landscape.
We often think of the Sun and the Moon as the Yin and Yang of our World and our own individual Astrological Charts.
Where the Sun is Masculine/Yang energy—to create, to move, to charge forward.
The Moon is seen as Feminine/Yin energy—a time to turn inward, to reflect, to feel, to release, to rest & renew.
There was a beautiful story about the Moon written in the book Eating by the Light of the Moon by Anita Johnston. While the story and analogy was explicitly related to Eating Disorder Recovery, there is a powerful analogy I recalled. And it was something like this:
The Sun gets all the credit: it is the one that goes out, performs, produces, creates, etc. It’s the forward-facing persona.
The Moon—is “hidden.” It’s the aspect of our charts that is associated with our emotions, how we handle emotions, etc. It is naturally “reflective, passive, inward-facing.”
Yet in the story, when the Moon was removed…
The Sun COLLAPSED.
This impacted me—because even though we give so much credit to the “doing”/Sun part of us…that creative spark and force IS UNSUSTAINABLE WITHOUT THE MOON.
The Moon is subtle, yet powerful.
It creates the conditions by which you may be able to FULLY RELEASE anything you may have been holding onto that is no longer serving you.

"The Moon isn't the absence of movement.
The Moon creates the conditions that make sustainable output and creation possible."
So…when you have a Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse transiting THIS SIGN, you can expect a Magnification of all of these things!

SYMPTOMS YOU MAY BE EXPERIENCING
Similar to the Solar Eclipse, this Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon may be triggering certain “symptoms” or experiences that may include the following:
-
Yes, more disrupted sleep, frequent wake-ups, or having trouble getting restful sleep.
-
Intense, Strange, Weird or Meaningful dreams.
-
Tiredness that doesn’t seem to resolve with rest or sleep (and could be magnified by the poor sleep).
-
Feeling both Tired and Wired—this is a strange one and I am deeply familiar. It’s almost like your mind and spirit are tired, but your body cannot relax, and you find yourself moving around starting projects, etc. Or feeling tired in your body and spirit, but your mind is completely “wired” and cannot seem to settle down, going through old conversations, memories, decisions, etc.
-
Appetite Changes
-
Digestive Issues
-
Skin Breakouts
-
Headaches
-
Feeling Dizzy or ungrounded
-
Heightened sensitivity in general.
-
Heightened sensitivity to certain foods, alcohol or substances.
-
Feeling more emotional.
-
Old grief and old memories rising back up.
-
Feeling triggered by "old wounds"
-
Strange synchronicities.
-
Old people in your life popping back into your life—not necessarily for reconciliation, but rather for completion.
-
Feeling a sense of heaviness or weightiness.
-
Feeling like time is stretching or compressing—losing track of time.
-
Feeling disconnected from yourself.
-
Seeing the truth about “illusions and dreams” you have carried for too long.
-
Lies, manipulation and stories that are not aligned or untrue rising to consciousness.
-
Feeling pulled to let go of possessions, people or tasks.
-
Feeling inspired to clean or clear your space, your inbox, or places where stagnation has accumulated.
THIS IS A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD THAT IS RIPE FOR:
RELEASE: Releasing Emotional Baggage, Old Patterns, Memories, Beliefs, Relationships, anything else that is holding you back or keeping you stuck in your “old self.”
Anything that you have suppressed, rationalized, repressed, that you’ve been running from. It will come a point where you can no longer run away from the discomfort of the memory, pain, conversation or transformation that you may have been distracting or evading.
What you refuse to process consciously doesn’t vanish, but the pressure continues to build until it reaches a point where you no longer can run away from it—and at that point the release becomes a lot less comfortable.
COMPLETION: Closing out chapters. This particular conglomeration is closing 3 loops: a 19-year period that started back in 2007; a period that started 2 years ago; and the loop opened by the first eclipse on Aug 12th. In September 2024 a series of eclipses began the current transformation in the planet. THIS is the LAST ECLIPSE THAT CLOSES OUT THAT SEQUENCE. You can think back to any of these 3 periods and think about what started "The beginning of the End"? or What did you abandon prematurely that is now coming back so you can finish, that you know you were meant to finish.
CLEARING: The slate, your home, decluttering your space, your inbox, anything that is just weighing you down, or getting in the way.
Open the highways.
CLOSING DOORS: Making a conscious commitment to the ending of something that has already completed. Closing the door—not looking back.
This may be a relationship, a job, a place, an identity, a role, a behavior, or an old version of yourself.
Closing a door is different from RELEASE. You can release emotions, beliefs, resentment, grief or attachment and still choose to remain in a relationship, a job or a situation.
CLOSING THE DOOR is the boundary. It is acknowledging that something has completed and making a strong commitment that you will not go back to what you already know you have outgrown.
It may involve emotional release, but it also requires a CHOICE. A choice that you will NO LONGER engage in a behavior, pattern, dynamic, etc.
Some things are meant to be healed. Some things are meant to be released. And some things are meant to END.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER
-
What have I been pretending not to know?
-
What have I been running away from or unwilling to face or acknowledge?
-
What conversations have I been postponing that need to happen?
-
What sensations, feelings or behaviors are quietly pointing to something I need to address or let go?
-
What have I been unwilling to see or acknowledge that is creating internal or external pressure in my life?
-
What is finished in my life that I have been unwilling to fully let go of?
-
What patterns of thought, feeling, belief or behavior have I been unconsciously running that are responsible for keeping me stuck in a loop? Or blocking the manifestation of what I truly desire?
-
What memories, relationships, beliefs or patterns are coming back for me to re-examine, heal at a deeper level or complete fully?
-
Where or how am I holding myself back by holding onto old beliefs, patterns, relationships, jobs, identities, that I have already outgrown?
-
What did I start in the past 19 years that I abandoned, left behind, left incomplete, or gave up on, that may be ripe for completion or full release now?
-
Does this old person, situation, experience supporting the new version of me? or are they attempting to draw me or reconnect me into an an old dynamic or old version of me?
PROCESS OR RITUAL

-
You can follow the instructions I outlined in the previous post: LINK HERE.
-
Give yourself TIME AND SPACE to REFLECT (remember this is the main Moon attribute). This can be meditation, silent contemplation, observation.
-
Find a way to RECORD the insights you gain (my favorite is writing, but you can also audio record, doodle, draw, etc.). Whatever resonates with you.
-
BE COMPASSIONATE to self and give yourself GRACE. (Remember that self-judgment and criticism often lead to a shame spiral that is NOT helpful for true transformation and growth.)
-
RELEASE: Use suggestions from the previous post. Use sage or Palo Santo to cleanse your body and space. This can also be done via sound. You can cry, burn, or process with your therapist or coach. If you know Ho’oponopono, MER, Superconscious Transformation or any of our Huna Techniques and energy, practice those. Can pair with a shower or any other physical release.
-
ALLOW EMOTIONS TO FLOW: HONOR THEM…let them out. Remember that the more you repress, resist or run away, the more painful or more violent the release will become when you are “forced” to face it, rather than choosing to face it. The more you repress, the more that stored emotion turns into emotional triggers or physical disease later on.
-
GROUND: Take some time to spend with your feet on the ground. 7–10 mins of full contact. Can be under the light of the moon or the next morning.
-
WATER: Drink lots of water to support your body.
-
OPTIONAL: One of my favorite things to do during a Full Moon is taking my natural stones and healing crystals, as well as my water (if you have water jugs), outside for the light of the moon to cleanse and charge them.
- IF YOU ONLY WANT TO DO TWO SIMPLE THINGS- DO THIS:
- Write a statement about what you are releasing, completing or closing a door on. Speak it out loud. Burn it.
- Write a statement about what you are WELCOMING IN: Who are you becoming (think 3 attributes), what is a new behavior, pattern, or goal you are focusing on welcoming in. Write it in THE PRESENT TENSE. Place it in a place you see and feel everyday.
REMEMBER THIS:
“When one door closes, another is opening.”

IF YOU FEEL CALLED TO GO DEEPER…
Much of what I have shared here; the process of bringing unconscious patterns into awareness, releasing stored emotions and energy, completing old cycles, and consciously choosing what you want to create instead; is deeply woven into the work we do in Huna.
Huna is an ancient Hawaiian system of healing, transformation and spiritual development that teaches us how to work consciously with the different aspects of the mind, our energy, our emotions, and our connection to something greater than ourselves.
If something in this post has stirred something in you…
If you know there is something you are ready to RELEASE, HEAL or COMPLETE…
Or if you simply feel curious about learning powerful Ancient Healing techniques and manifestation practices more deeply…
I invite you to join me for my next Huna Introduction: October 24–25.
You don't need to believe anything to experience the power of it.
Come experience it for yourself.
Take what resonates. Experience what changes. And decide for yourself what is true for you.
